With a large half-basement floor, “PARCEL” is a former multi-story parking lot converted into a contemporary art gallery. By taking out the fixtures and equipments, we were able to create a space with the height of two layers of parking, and added a stair continuing down to this space with the same finish as the floor. Functions that were mandatory for the hotel were kept visible but carefully organized to maintain the maximum height possible. The original turntable of the parking lot was kept, along with a newly made curved wall also in the interior of the gallery to keep its original parking lot tone but at the same time adding a distinct character. The newly made double door can be opened during installation and enables large scale artworks to enter the gallery space smoothly.
