AESOP NAKANOSHIMA FESTIVAL PLAZA

The twin tower project site is a compound facility including a cultural venue called the “Festival Hall”. This hall which is also the roots of the building name, the “Festival Tower”, has been a home to the arts and culture of Nakanoshima since its former venue made in 1958, a time when Japan did not have any large concert halls, hosting various international artists and musicians. As an homage this hall and “Nakanoshima” to the city filled with art and music, we aimed to create a store with an atmosphere of a beautiful small theater. At times with the elegance of classical music, and at times avant-garde and sculptural.
Tatsuyama-ishi” a pale blue stone material which is mined in the region will be used as the main material. This also a material with beautiful texture, which can be seen used in the facades of some of the historical Western-style buildings Osaka built in the pre-war period and has been used to build stone coffins for the noble and the leaders in the past. We aimed to create an atmosphere with elegance by combining gold colored stainless steel with this stone material. In addition, we have used the existing slanted ceiling, caused by the location of the escalator, using it as a reflector to diffuse light throughout the space.
