EXHIBITION SPACE for “Tranquility at The Shore”

Exhibition design of photographer Nao Tsuda’s solo exhibition “Tranquility at The Shore”. The exhibition was held at the historically conserved Bunsho-kan of Dazaifu-Tenmangu, a large tatami room open to the garden in front of its wooden structure. Due to limited wall space, we faced a challenge to secure enough surface for exhibiting the works. By implementing modules extracted from traditional Japanese architectural aspects such as the tatami and fusuma, we created volumes that can moved and used for the exhibition without damaging this historical building. In addition, by creating various shapes of this volume, the viewers were able to face the works from multi perspectives such as sitting down or looking down from above. A free perspective which is similar to the photographers vision during his shooting. We aimed to create an extraordinary gallery experience through this atmosphere where the raindrops, the scent from the garden, natural lights blend with the photographic works of Nao Tsuda.
